Please be advised, there are some changes coming to the pipeline beginning in 2019. I will post information as it becomes available and is finalized/implemented.


The Pararescue Pipeline

The Pararescue Pipeline officially starts when you enter the development course however, the information below will tell you exactly how much time to expect you will spend at each school. The typical pipeline length is 2.5 years overall. The first break you will have to take leave is after dive school, because you will PCS from JBSA Lackland, TX to Kirtland AFB, NM. You are allowed to bring your family to Kirtland with you when you PCS. Once you have completed the pipeline you still know just enough to get by and will need to refine your skills. When you graduate find a mentor and pick his brain about everything. 


Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX

  • USAF Basic Military Training (BMT)- 8.5 weeks

  • Battlefield Airman (BA) Prep - 8 weeks

    • Expect to graduate BMT on a Friday and start BA Prep on Monday.

    • This course will have all BA students to include TACP/CCT/SOWT

    • College coaches from around the US hired to prepare you for your respective course

    • Only Non Prior Service students will attend this course, CRO/Prior Service/Retrainee's will attend a Phase II selection

  • Phase II Enlisted - 5 Days

    • CRO/Prior Service/Retrainee's

  • PJ/CRO Indoctrination (INDOC) Course - 9 weeks

    • Designed to instill an operator mentality through rigorous training and team building exercises. This course will be a kick in the balls and has an average attrition of 65%

Navy Dive and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC), Panama City, FL

  • USAF Combat Dive School - 6 weeks

    • Students will learn procedures for Open Circuit and Closed Circuit diving along with underwater navigation techniques

Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA

  • Phase II (Officer) - Will attend prior to the PJ/CRO DEV and INDOC 5 days

    • Will be a CRO specific PAST to include 3 mi run <21 min, and 1500m swim in <30 min all other calisthenic criteria will be the same

  • Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) school - 3 weeks

    • Students will spend extended time out in the field learning navigation and survival techniques

  • Underwater egress training - 1 day

    • Learn how to escape a helicopter underwater

Fort Benning, GA

  • Airborne School - 3 weeks

    • Learn to jump from military aircraft in a Static-Line Parachute (round canopy)

Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), AZ

  • Military Free Fall School - 3 weeks

    • Learn how to fall out of an airplane and pull your ripcord without dying. This is where you learn basic freefall and canopy maneuvers.

Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM

  • Pararescue Paramedic Program - 22 weeks

  • Pararescue Apprentice Course - 24 weeks
