When will I actually get the opportunity to take the PAST?
You will take one before you come in and when you graduate from BMT. You will take a different and more difficult test when you graduate from SW prep.
What is the first step I should take if I am currently serving in the USAF and want to join an SW careerfield?
First step is to speak with the career advisor make sure your current AFSC can release you and that you are in your retraining window. Depending on where you are stationed (as of now) spec ops recruiters cannot give you a PAST test. So you will need to travel to a base with a STS or RQS on it and have them conduct a PAST test for your package. Keep in mind, don’t do this too early because they are only valid for approx. 6 months.
What should my training for the week leading up to the PAST test look like?
Keep on working out until 3 days out. At 3 day out you should do 75 percent of what your workout is, on the 2nd day 50 percent and the day before you should really just stretch and practice form in the mirror. Obviously, make sure you are hydrating with electrolytes as much as you can and take some amino acids to make sure you don’t cramp on test day. Lastly, make sure you are stretching and foam rolling every day and wake up with enough time to eat a full breakfast 1 hr before your test.
Is there an authorized rest position during the PAST?
There is no rest position for the past, you need to stay in the pushup position the whole time.
Would you still recommend your Pass the PAST program for Reserves Pararescue?
No, I would recommend doing the Get Selected program for the reserves since you will have to go through their hiring process, which will include a lot of the exercises in the workout.
Should I wait to talk to recruiter until I can pass the PAST?
Nope, talk to them and work out a schedule on when you think you are ready. They will also set you up with a Developer in the meantime. Recruiters can also have you tryout before you go to MEPS, they will give you a paper for your doctor and have them perform a sports physical on you.
Are you allowing guys to rest during push ups with their butt up in the air or is it starting position only?
Practice without resting with your butt in the air. Know that the rules can change at any time, so be prepared.
For the 500m PAST swim are we allowed to do a combat side stroke or only freestyle?
You are allowed to do any stroke you want. But it is highly recommended you use free style.
