What kind of pool will we be swimming in at A&S? 9 or 12 foot pool?
For selection it will be both, for dive school it's a 12ft pool.
When bobbing, I'm really floaty (on a full exhale I kind of just slowly sink) and end up having to basically swim myself down. Any tips or recommendations?
If you push off the bottom of the pool harder, it causes you to come out of the water more, which will help you sink faster since you will have more momentum than just a dead pause at the top.
Any tips on running?
I would do some interval work, like 400-800m and do one day a week where you run 6-8 mi.
Would the The TEST Event look good on a retraining packet for Pararescue?
I honestly don't know, but I know many people on the board and they know what I do in my business. You need to be able to live the principles taught in the The TEST Event, and that will show them you are the guy they want to work with. For more information about The TEST, click here.
Do PJ’s with a 3 lvl report to the same duty station for upgrade training or can they be sent to any AFSOC base?
As a 3 level you can be sent to either place.
Was wondering if you have any advice for a staff or tech entering indoc. What areas can I realistically improve on where an airman might not be held to as high of a standard?
As an NCO we would expect you to act in your leadership capacity as outlined in the little brown book. You should have solid leadership skills so you can help Airmen learn, and take care of them. We also expect you to hold the team accountable and lead with integrity. As far as physical standards, it is hopeful that our NCO can lead by example.
What would you say was more mentally challenging Indoc or SERE?
Indoc is the most difficult in all aspects. SERE Is not really difficult it just is cold and less sleep.
What’s your suggestion for how long we should be able to comfortably tread with hands and without hands for indoc?
I would recommend being able to tread with hands up for 3 min, the old grad standard was 2 min 30 sec. During training we do it for longer though.
Wondering if it would be possible to restart the program?
You can definitely restart as many times as you would like up to a year from your purchase date.
I was wondering what physical benchmarks I should be at before starting training, as well as what gear I should be buying?
In order to start the past program there are not specific benchmarks but I usually tell people as long as they can pass the AF PT test then they will be just fine. Also, you can repeat the workout as many times as you want for up to a year from your purchase date. Equipment recommendations can be found on my website here or on my amazon page here.
Is it better to have a little fat or be as lean as possible going into selection?
A little fat is totally fine, all anyone really cares about is whether or not you can perform. From what I have seen people with no fat have more trouble than those with a little fat.
Can you explain the process for PS from shipping out to arriving at A&S?
You will go to phase 2 from your current duty unit and if you are selected you will be given a date to come back to Lackland to attend SW prep (shortened version).
Will we be allowed to bring our own boots to A&S?
Yes as long as they fall within AFI 36-2903.
How do you like the LALO boots? What are your tips 3 ruck boot recommendations?
The ones I use are keens (super comfortable but not as durable as some) and Lowas which are more durable but more expensive. Another recommendations, Salomon’s they makes several boots that work well.
Will there be the same amount of water con during A&S as Indoc since TACP and SR are going through it as well?
There will not be as much watercon, but there will be events that don't require skill in order to test fortitude. The more technical events will be saved for predive which will immediately follow selection.
Do you have to renew your flight physical? I got one while being in BA prep and now I'm getting ready to do the retrain process and I'm wondering if I have to get it again?
Yes, for some reason that one doesn’t last a year like a normal one does.
Are you allowing guys to rest during push ups with their butt up in the air or is it starting position only?
Practice without resting with your butt in the air. Know that the rules can change at any time, so be prepared.
How do you get assigned to a unit once you graduated from the pipeline? Is it based on where you live in the states or is it random?
Usually, when you are about to graduate the have a list of available bases on the board and they rank your performance throughout the pipeline, the top guy picks first and so on.
For the 500m PAST swim are we allowed to do a combat side stroke or only freestyle?
You are allowed to do any stroke you want. But it is highly recommended you use free style.
